T. Nanette (Nan) Buchanan – age 91, of Ocean City, NJ, previously from Swarthmore, PA died peacefully November 5, 2020, surrounded by family. She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Jack Buchanan. Devoted mother of Shawn (predeceased), Karen Lynch, Susan (John) McCrossan, Jimmy Buchanan, and her daughter-in-law Pat Buchanan. She was a loving and treasured Mom-Mom to Philip and Patrick Lynch, Shawn and Chuck Buchanan, Kyle, Ryan and Kelly McCrossan, and Erin Buchanan. Nan was predeceased by her devoted parents Carl and Mildred Leone. She also had a wonderful extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends whom she loved.
Nan was raised in upstate Pennsylvania and worked in the Airline Industry shortly after graduating High School. She began working for the Airlines in Washington D.C. and then transferred to Philadelphia where she met a young fellow named Jack Buchanan. She fell in love and married Jack Buchanan in 1958. They just recently celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary.
Nan and Jack raised their family in the Ridley Township Swarthmore, PA where they lived for over 42 years. In 2001 they moved to Ocean City, NJ. where she lived until her passing. As a loving mom, she took great pride in her children and 8 grandchildren. Her favorite time of day was anytime she was near them. She felt blessed to have an extended circle of family and friends with whom she shared much laughter.
Nan volunteered as a Den mother for the Boy Scouts, a Brownie Leader for the Girl Scouts, and as a Seamstress for Cardinal O’Hara’s Theatre Group. She loved spending time at the beach and enjoyed many winter vacations with her husband Jack visiting Padre Island in Texas. She was an avid reader, had an exceptional talent for crossword puzzles, and spent countless hours enjoying her grandchildren’s visits.
A celebration of Nan’s life and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 3948 Central Avenue, Ocean City, NJ. Due to COVID-19, there will be no calling hours. Interment private. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Hospital (www.stjude.org).
