Susan Veronica Gerhardt (McCullough), 74, of Philadelphia, died December 17, 2020. 

Susan was born November 23, 1946 to John McCullough and Edith O’Brecht.  Sue married Ronald P. Gerhardt on June 10, 1967. They went on to have three children; Dolores A. Roberto, Suzanne D. Gerhardt, and George W. Gerhardt. They were married for over 40 years. 

Sue wore many “hats” over her 74 years. She worked as a home demonstrator while raising her family. In the 1980’s Sue began to work as a Clown and she continued this work on well into her 60’s.  Sue also helped mentor new clowns during her career, many were her family members and friends.  

When Sue was 42 years old she decided to go back to school to become a nurse. Sue worked as a clown on weekends while she pursued her nursing degree. She obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse License from Presbyterian School of Practical Nursing and two years later she obtained her Registered Nurse License from Community College of Philadelphia. Sue worked in oncology before moving onto homecare. She worked in homecare until she accepted a position at Independence Blue Cross/Blue Shield where she worked as a case manager until she retired.

She was an active member of her church, Wissinoming Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. She sang in the church choir for over 30 years, was a member of the Hallelujah Singers and served on many church committees. Sue enjoyed volunteering at Lawton Elementary School helping children who needed extra support with reading.  Sue was also a well accomplished quilter, making beautiful gifts for family and friends.  She made many friends through her passion for quilting.  It was her older sister Dolores who started her off and she continued to quilt up until she passed, with a little help from her friends. Sue will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings and many friends.

Susan’s services will be held in accordance to Covid restrictions from 1:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Delaware Valley Cremation Center, 7350 State Road, Philadelphia, PA 19136.
