Roger W. Price

Age: 82, of East Fallowfield, PA

Roger Wayne Price died at Paoli Hospital on April 15, 2020 following a fall at his home. He is survived by his wife Connie Hewitt; sons Jim Price of Durham, NC, and Doug Price of Bethesda, MD; and his sister Deanna Vasquez, niece and nephews Jesse, Michael, Tina and Ernie, and their children who live in Southern California. He was preceded in death by his parents Vinnie “Gladys” (Sparks) and Kenneth C. Price.

Roger was born August 23, 1937 in Los Angeles, California and graduated from Washington Senior High School in 1955. He completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Pepperdine University in 1959.
Roger attended Fuller Theological Seminary and then transferred to the American Baptist Seminary of the West, where he graduated in 1963 with a master of divinity degree. He was ordained in 1963 at the First Baptist Church in Pasadena, CA. While in seminary, he was Youth Director at Pasadena First Baptist Church from 1961 to 1963.

Roger served as Minister of Christian Education at churches in Lancaster and West Covina, California, and then returned to Pasadena First Baptist in 1966. From 1971 to 1973 he was the Minister of Christian Education at First Baptist Church in Ottawa, KS.

From 1973 to 1987 he worked in Educational Ministries at the American Baptist Churches headquarters in Valley Forge, eventually being named Director of Children’s Ministries. He lived in Downingtown from 1974 to 1985. During this time he helped to lead the youth group at Exton Baptist Church and occasionally umpired little league games. He completed a Master of Arts in Psychology at West Chester University in 1984.

Roger left Pennsylvania to become the director of the senior adult outreach program at First Baptist Church, Los Angeles, CA, which included leading groups on tours to other parts of the country as well as Europe. He later served as the director of a home for adults with developmental disabilities in Cedar Rapids, IA, and for a decade was Director of Advancement for American Baptist Homes of the Midwest in Eden Prairie, MN.

When Roger retired in 2003 he and his wife returned to East Fallowfield, PA. In his retirement he served on the Board of ARC in Chester County, was a tour guide at both the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum in Reading and the Underground Railroad Center in Kennett Square, and taught history at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Widener University. Roger was interested ancient Greek and Egyptian history, Minoan, Navajo and Hopi cultures, archeology and geology, Civil War history, Yosemite National Park, and the photography of Ansel Adams. He was an attender at Downingtown Friends Meeting.
