Leola M. Pawluch

Leola M. Pawluch passed away peacefully at home on September 12, 2017. Born in Philadelphia on December 23, 1922, Lee was a 1940 graduate of Frankford High School, and attended the Abington Memorial Hospital School of Nursing through the United States Cadet Nurse Corps program.  Graduating in 1946, she embarked upon a career that included positions at Syracuse University Hospital, the Shadyside Hospital at the University of Pittsburgh and at the University of Chicago Hospital. In the Philadelphia region, she was a school nurse in the Centennial School District, a nurse at the Shriner’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and at her alma mater, Abington Memorial Hospital.

While serving as an industrial nurse at Exide Battery in 1962, she met her husband John, to whom she was married for 51 years. She and John enjoyed their home in northeast Philadelphia, which was filled with John’s cabinetry and products of Lee’s sewing expertise. Lee passed along her superlative bargain-hunting skills to their daughter Debra, for which Debra is very grateful; they spent many hours together in consignment stores and at flea markets and antique shows. Lee and John also enjoyed traveling, especially to the UK, and made numerous trips to destinations up and down the East Coast. At home, Lee enjoyed spending time with her Dalmatians Sheba and Chloé.

Lee was a great nurse, but above all was a wonderful wife and mother, whose belief in the importance of a quality education and a life of service is especially appreciated by her daughter.

Please join the Pawluch family after 2:00 pm Saturday, September 23rd at Delaware Valley Cremation Center 7350 State Road Philadelphia, PA 19136 for a gathering of remembrance in honoring and celebrating Leola’s life.
