Kathryn M. Magerr

Kathryn M. Magerr (Kasia) was born on November 21st, 1926, the second child to Polish immigrant parents, Antoni and Jadwiga Dadura. Her true best friend and confidant throughout life was her older sister, Faye. She grew up in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia and was a parishioner at St. Laurentius Church.
Kathryn met her husband, Edmund Magerr, at the wedding of their mutual friends, Bill and Teresa Young, where they were both part of the bridal party. Before long they too were married on September 24th, 1949. Kathryn was welcomed into the Magerr family by Grace and Leo and their seven children. Kathryn often talked about her Sunday dinners at the Magerr family home where her mother-in-law, Grace, would provide a Roast Beef dinner to the large gathering of her children and their families. Kathryn and Ed made their home in Bridesburg and lived on the same block as her sister, Faye and her husband Frank Dombkoski. Kathryn was a very close aunt to her sister’s sons, Frank and Stephen Dombkoski. Later as they married, she developed strong ties with their wives, Margaret and Teresa, and became a great aunt to their children, Maria, Stephen and Bridget.
Kathryn and Edmund welcomed their first child, David, on November 18th, 1959 and later a daughter, Lisa, on July 28th, 1962. Both children were blessed to have such loving and caring parents who greatly provided for their children. Kathryn worked most of her career at Robert Hawthorne, Inc., a demolition contractor, while Edmund held a government job at the Frankford Arsenal. They provided both children with educations from private high schools to college degrees from Temple University. In March of 1986, their daughter, Lisa was married to Walter E. Sucharski III. Kathryn often joked as she referred to Walter as “her favorite son-in-law”.
Sadly, Kathryn lost her beloved husband of 44 years on April 5th, 1990. That same year she welcomed her first grandchild, Samantha Kaitlyn, on June 15th. Walter and Lisa also gave birth to her second grandchild, Victoria Ashley on April 9th, 1992. She cherished her granddaughters from the moment they were born and filled their lives with love that only a grandmother could. Throughout their lives whenever she would leave them at the end of the day, she would kiss and hug them and then whisper, “sleep with the angels”.
Another joy in her life was the love and companionship she had for her dogs. Her most recent dog, Rosie, she referred to as “Mommy’s little girl”.
Kathryn was always a deeply religious woman. She was a parishioner at St. John Cantius Church and brought up her children in the Catholic faith. On Monday, October 24, 2016, at the age of 89, her Lord and Savior called her to be with him. At times she prayed for that day to come. That afternoon, surrounded by her children and granddaughters, God answered her prayers. She will be missed by many here left on earth but will joyfully be welcomed by her many loved ones in heaven and reunited with her loving husband, Edmund, and her dear sister, Faye.
With much heartfelt love for Kathryn, her family now knows that she sleeps with the angels and watches over us from heaven.
A special thank you to the nurses and staff at the St. John Neumann Nursing facility for the wonderful care and loving environment provided to Kathryn.
