Joanne Gurt Loughery, 59, from New Jersey passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018, in her home, with her husband by her side after her long battle with cancer. Born in Philadelphia on Aug. 5, 1958, she was the daughter of the late Gertrude and Raymond Gurt. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years Thomas Loughery; two beautiful children, Thomas Loughery (Alicia) and Krystle Loughery; seven siblings Marianne Katen (Mike), Raymond Gurt, Rose Manella (Glen), Bernadette Fox (John), Marita McGee (William), Robert Gurt, and Pete Gurt (Jane); twenty-five nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.
Joanne graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School in 1976 and worked as a secretary until she received the blessing of becoming a mother to two amazing children. From that moment forth her dream of becoming a stay-at-home mother was fulfilled. A devout member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Joanne will be fondly remembered for her love of all children, generosity, and selflessness. She radiated strength, compassion, and grace that was only surpassed by her love for a family celebration (her Christmas decorations put the Griswold’s to shame).
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 14, at 10 a.m. at the St. Agnes Church, 701 Little Gloucester Road, Blackwood, NJ 08012. Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of our beloved Joanne.
