Jeffrey Louis Mitchell

Jeff Mitchell, Ph.D., 63, of Yardley, PA, died of cancer Sunday, August 16, at the Jefferson Health Hospice in Warminster, PA. He was born in Trenton, NJ, August 6, 1957, to the late Josephine (Gugliucci) and Stanley Mitchell and was an early survivor of spina bifida surgery. He grew up in Hamilton, NJ, then attended Princeton University for his B.A. and New York University for his Ph.D. in clinical psychology. In New York, he also studied psychoanalysis and worked in inpatient psychiatric units and at the MTA.
He moved to Yardley, PA, in 1998 and established a successful private practice, while also working with community mental health centers in Philadelphia and Bucks County. He was named the “Best of Bucks” psychologist by the Bucks County Courier Times in 2017. He published two books: The Five Diagnoses, and What Was Psychoanalysis? and was a regular speaker at area schools. He was an active Princeton alumnus and mentored students on entrepreneurship projects. He was a fine musician who played guitar professionally when he was young and played piano by ear for everyone’s pleasure. He was a creative soul. He was (his word choice) relentless.
Jeff was beloved by his family, his friends, and the many patients he helped over the years. He is survived by his wife, Florence, his twin children, Henry and Julia, his sister, Deborah Mitchell, and a circle of cherished friends and family. A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held at a future date. At Jeff’s request, contributions to help his children continue their education are welcomed via https://gf.me/u/ymywau.
