Jane Eleanor Epler Schmidt of Langhorne, PA, peacefully passed at home on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, after a gradual decline in health. She was 88 years old. A resident of Langhorne since 1953, she was an active member of the community and the Langhorne United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband George and their four children (and spouses): Leslie Adams (Steve Ellsbury), Claudia (Ed DiMond), David (Debbie) and Joanne; 4 grandchildren (and spouses) Andrea (Joe Greway), Lisa (Michael Hughes), Page Gillen and Adam Gillen (Katherine); 4 great-grandchildren, Adaline, Lorelei, and Edmund Greway; and Anthony Hughes and sister Patti Brennan, a resident of Mays Landing, NJ as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jane was born May 30, 1931, in Atlantic City, to the late Wynfield S. Epler and Ruth Fagan Epler Errickson. She graduated from Clayton High School and worked as an executive assistant to Dr. Charles Bailey, a renowned pioneer heart surgeon at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia until she became a mother. She later earned an Associates Degree and worked as a tax professional for many years.
She married her high school sweetheart, George A. Schmidt March 22, 1952, and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage. Their first Langhorne home was on West Maple Avenue, moving in 1962, to a home on Winchester Avenue as their family grew. In 2012, they finally downsized to the Villages of Flowers Mill.
Jane was active in the community as a volunteer and was a member of Jr. Sorosis, the women’s club of Langhorne, the Langhorne Garden Club, and was a very active member of Langhorne United Methodist Church. One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards with friends, especially Bridge. Jane and George enjoyed a second home in Surf City, NJ and were active members of Surf City Yacht Club, where they enjoyed the company of many friends and fellow sailors.
A small family Celebration of Life will be held at home because of the current COVID 19 circumstances. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the sympathy, comforting words, prayers, and all expressions of kindness and concern. May God continue to bless you.
