Helen Marie Smarro, age 85, passed away on March 12, 2017 surrounded by family. Helen was suddenly struck with pneumonia and despite a valiant struggle, lost her last battle.
Helen led a long, happy and colorful life. She enjoyed a career as an executive secretary in the advertising field, to several judges in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and to a Philadelphia Mayor.
In retirement, Helen was an avid walker and talker. She entertained neighbors, friends and acquaintances with colorful stories about her life often including unsolicited advice. Helen and her husband of 67 years, Joseph, were well known as the couple who often conducted yards sales outside their home. Through this hobby, Helen made many friends by whom she will be missed.
Helen is survived by her husband, Joseph Smarro. Helen raised Patrick Mullen, deceased, Janis Strutin (Mitchell), Lois Hall (Richard), Vincent Smarro (Kazuha Okuchi). She greatly loved her grandchildren, R. Cameron Hall (Lindsay), Luigi Smarro and Nico Smarro and her great grandchild, Dylan Hall.
Helen is now with her family and friends who went before her catching up on her stories. Helen will be loved and missed forever.
