Charles “Chuck” McNamara, Sr.

Charles “Chuck” McNamara, Sr., 89 of Norwood, PA, passed away on February 18th and was the beloved husband of the late Joan “Joanie” M. (nee Clarey).

Born on March 23rd, 1931 in West Philadelphia to John and Hazel McNamara (nee Bush). Chuck graduated from St. Thomas Moore class of ‘49. He met the love of his life, Joan “Joanie” M. Clarey on Dance Night at the Shanahan Catholic Club and they were married eight months later on January 12th, 1957, the “Twelfth of Never.” He was a US Army Veteran who served during the Korean War (304th Signal Battalion Radio Operator). Chuck was a retired Philadelphia Police Officer and later owner of Chuck’s Place Taproom in Southwest Philadelphia. Chuck was a faithful member of St. Gabriel’s Parish in Norwood and an avid golfer who also enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing.

Survivors: Beloved father of Charles Jr., Lawrence (Robin), Daniel (Christine) and Joni Giallonardo (Joseph). Devoted grandfather to eight, great grandfather to two and uncle to several nieces and nephews. Preceded in passing by his wife Joan “Joanie” M. (nee Clarey) sons; James, Patrick, Matthew (Denise) and daughter Carol.

Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be announced when social distancing guidelines are less restrictive. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html
