Carl R. Statkiewicz

Carl was born in Philadelphia on Ground Hogs Day, February 2, 1953 to Walter (Wally) and Alma Statkiewicz.  Alma was born and raised in England and met Wally during World War II. They were married in England and returned stateside to Philadelphia, PA to reside.

Carl’s early childhood was spent in the Port Richmond area of Philadelphia on Richmond Street.   He spent many hours over at his Dziadzi and Babci’s home in Bridesburg. He enjoyed spending time with them, his Cioci , his godmother, Helen and his aunts, uncles and cousins.

When Carl was about 5 years old his Mom and Dad moved to the new development north of Philadelphia – Levittown.  They moved to Red Cedar on Rust Leaf Lane.  Not long after they moved, his sister Diane was born.  Carl attended elementary and high school in Levittown.  He developed a love for music and joined a rock band.  He continued to love music, listen to the radio, and play his guitar until his death.

Carl was a member of the Army Reserves which allowed him to work alongside his dad, also an Army Reservist.  He loved playing darts with his father, and they spent hours together in their family room chatting and playing the game they loved.

After his dad passed away Carl lived at the family home with his mother and sister until his mother’s death.  When Alma passed away, Carl and his sister moved into an apartment together.  The two of them spent many hours together going for walks with their dog Sasha, shopping, and just generally enjoying each other’s company.

Carl loved his family and friends and even when he couldn’t visit, he would call to check on friends and family and would send cards for special occasions and holidays.

Within the last few years Carl’s diabetic condition continued to worsen and he was hospitalized a few times.   Over Easter weekend he had just returned from such a visit.  He told his sister that he wasn’t feeling well and went to bed.  He passed away in his sleep.  Carl’s gentle soul will be missed by many, including his sister Diane, his Aunt Florence and many cousins, as well as his dog Sasha.  May he rest in peace.

A visitation for Carl will take place Wednesday, April 11,2018 from 11-11:30 am, with a remembrance of life service immediately following at 11:30am at the Delaware Valley Cremation Center 7350 State Road, Philadelphia, PA 19136. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carl’s name to the American Diabetes Association, 150 Monument Road, Suite 100, Bala Cynwyd, PA  19004 (610) 828-5003.
