Bernice Heriot

Bernice Heriot (née Brown) passed away on January 16, 2021 in Yardley, Pennsylvania.  She was 93.  Bernice was born in Far Rockaway, NY, the daughter of the late George and Emily (Capers) Brown.  She graduated from PS 39, Far Rockaway High School and Brooklyn College.   At an early age Bernice volunteered with her mother to help roll bandages for the Red Cross during World War II.  This evolved into an enduring focus on community service for Bernice throughout her life.  Bernice loved working and had a variety of positions over the years that tapped into her assorted talents and her desire to make a difference in the lives of others.  Many years were spent at the Five Towns Community House in Inwood, NY, with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, and ultimately with AARP.  

Bernice was an avid reader throughout her whole life.  She reveled in spirited discussions about politics, and loved music, walking, swimming, and yoga.  More than anything, she loved her family.  She delighted in hosting events for friends and loved ones throughout the years.  Everyone who knew Bernice loved and adored her vivacious and fun-loving spirit. 

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Marlvin E. Heriot.  She was also preceded in death by her siblings, George Brown, Walter Brown, Mae Thomas, Rita Gumbs, and Ruth Dublin.  

Bernice is survived by her daughter, Emily Heriot Hill and son-in-law, Michael, of Yardley, Pennsylvania.  She also leaves behind two granddaughters, Lauren C. Hill of Pittsburgh, PA and Sarah O. Hill of Minneapolis, MN, and two great granddaughters, Eliana Amara Johnson of Pittsburgh, PA and Marlow Simone Frand Hill of Minneapolis, MN.  She is also survived by many devoted nieces, nephews and other extended family. 

Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic. a memorial will take place on Long Island in the future when the family can gather together to celebrate her life.
