Nancy R. Shanahan, MD

Nancy R. Shanahan of Warminster died peacefully Monday, November 26th 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was 89.

She was the loving wife of the late Neil P. Shanahan for 62 years.

Born in Jamestown, NY. She was the daughter of Charles Ellis Rogers and Evelyn Hendershott Rogers. She was preceeded in death by her two brothers: Joseph Rogers and Allen Rogers.

As a young girl Nancy moved to Pen Argyl, PA and graduated from Pen Argyl High School in 1947. After graduating from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, Nancy earned a B.S. degree in Biology from Juniata College in 1953. She then enrolled at the Women’s Medical College of PA graduating with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1957 followed by an internship and residency at Philadelphia General Hospital.

In 1959 while starting a family, Nancy opened a medical practice in Lansdale, PA and served that community for four years.

Nancy then focused on raising her growing family of five children with stops in Miami FL, and Birmingham AL. In 1969 she moved to Warminster and enjoyed a ten year term as a physician at West Park Hospital in Bala Cynwyd.

Nancy returned to school at Temple University-Moss Rehabilitation Hospital-Albert Einstein Medical Center earning a degree in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1982. She then began a long career as the Medical Director at St. Mary Hospital Rehabilitation Unit. Since 1990 Nancy has been a consultant at Beechwood NeuroRehab Center in Langhorne, PA. She pursued her passion for serving her patients until November 2018.

Nancy was an active member of the Neshaminy Warwick Presbyterian Church in Warwick since 1969. She loved spending time in Sea Isle City surrounded by friends and family.

Nancy is survived by her five children, Heather Shanahan and her husband Jan Kudilek of Frankfurt Germany, Timothy Shanahan and his wife Mary of Chalfont PA, Neil Shanahan II of Dauphin Island AL, Peter Shanahan and his wife Stacey of Peachtree City, GA, and Martha Jones and her husband Walter of Cochranville, PA. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren: Amy, Erin, Timothy Jr., Cailin, Aubrie, James, Neil III, Alana, Kyle, Evan, Sarah,
Walter Jr., and Lacey.

A service celebrating a life well lived will be held Monday, December 3rd, at 11AM at Neshaminy Warwick Presbyterian Church, 1401 Meetinghouse Road, Warminster PA. 18974. Friends may call at 10 AM. Memorial contributions in Nancy’s name may be made to Neshaminy Warwick Mission Program or Chandler Hall Health Services, 99 Barcley St. Newtown PA 18940, or the charity of the donors choice.
